The name of the Association is the Association for the Promotion of International Travel and Tourism (APITT). It continues the mission begun as AITT (Association for International Travel and Tourism).
APITT
The governing instrument of the Association
Adopted 2017
This Constitution is the public governing instrument of the Association for the Promotion of International Travel and Tourism (APITT). It records how the Association is organised: the General Council, the separate offices of Chairman and Ambassador, the Executive Committee, regional directors, Country Managers, membership and partners.
The name of the Association is the Association for the Promotion of International Travel and Tourism (APITT). It continues the mission begun as AITT (Association for International Travel and Tourism).
The Association exists to promote global travel and tourism in emerging and evolving destinations. It helps countries, cities and resorts that are overlooked, that have difficulty reaching a wider audience, or that need help relaunching their profile — for tourists and business travellers seeking new experiences.
APITT is a not-for-profit mutual association. It does not exist to distribute profit to members. The registered office is 124 City Road, London EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom.
Membership is open, on the terms published by the Association, to larger businesses, smaller businesses, individual professionals, students of tourism, destination partners (national tourism ministries and government tourism offices) and associate members connected with the travel industry. Business members may be listed on the Members page after the Association has recorded their organisation correctly. Destination partners receive a free page on the APITT website and promotion at Association events. Associate membership is available on request.
The General Council brings together all the officers of the Association and is presided over by the Chairman. It is the governing body: it determines policy and oversees the objects of the Association. The Ambassador is a member of the General Council. The Chairman and the Ambassador are separate offices and sit outside the Executive Committee.
The Chairman is a distinct office of the Association. The Chairman chairs the General Council and does not sit on the Executive Committee by virtue of that office.
The Ambassador is a distinct office of the Association. The Ambassador is a member of the General Council and does not sit on the Executive Committee by virtue of that office. The Ambassador supports the Association’s international profile and advocacy for destinations, culture and responsible tourism.
The Executive Committee handles the Association’s day-to-day work, including government and media relations, events, education and training, membership, finance and general administration. It is led by the Director-General and includes the Deputy Director-General and the executive directors appointed for communications, business development, business travel, events, skills and training, sustainable tourism, marketing and such other portfolios as the General Council may approve.
The Association may appoint regional directors for territories of the globe and Country Managers for individual countries. They promote destinations and industry links in their regions. They are not members of the Executive Committee by virtue of those appointments unless they also hold an executive portfolio.
The Association may work with media, commercial and association partners, and with training providers, conference companies, airlines, hotel groups and other bodies, to further its objects. Partnership does not confer membership unless the partner also joins under Article 4.
This Constitution may be amended by the General Council. The current public text is published at apitt.org/constitution.html. Enquiries about the Association’s records may be sent to the Director-General via info@apitt.org.
